Linguistic Intelligence

Jane is a magnificent storyteller. She can tell a story or write it down and it is just as powerful. Her first set of notes to Dr. Leakey became the first draft of In The Shadow of Man, which became a best seller in the 1970s. It was not until 1986 when Jane wrote a definitive work on chimpanzees titled The Chimpanzees of Gombe: Patterns of Behavior that she became recognized by other scientists as an authoritative voice on the subject. Until then, she was sometimes discounted as a National Geographic “cover girl” explorer.
