Observer: Why Jane?
Why Jane?

These were the qualities that made Jane an ideal candidate in Dr. Leakey’s eyes:

  • Jane had worked all her life learning about, observing, writing, and reading about animals.
  • Jane was patient, had a strong desire to understand animals, and was persistent.
  • Jane had an open mind. Since she was not a trained biologist, she might offer a fresh perspective.
  • Jane was also curious and enthusiastic.

To Jane's delight, Dr. Leakey offered her the pioneering research position because she possessed all of these qualities.
